Preschool Creation Lesson – Day 6
Genesis 1:24-27, New International Version (NIV)
24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Before I started reading, I told the kids that I would need their help with sound effects and to yell out sounds as I held up different animals. As we read, I help up the corresponding animals as the text mentioned them – cow (livestock), snake (creatures that move along the ground), and monkeys (wild animals) – and the kids made noises with each one. With the second half of the reading, I held up a boy doll and a girl doll with each corresponding part of the text. They had fun acting out this part of the scripture.

We made a blue handprint elephant and a yellow handprint lion with finger paint and markers. You can see this idea on the Gummy Lump Toys Blog. Bud then laid down on a big sheet of butcher paper and we traced around his body. We used markers to fill in his eyes, hair, nose, clothing, etc. We talked about the parts of our body and how God gave each one a special job to do.
