I started homeschooling Luke this September and decided to begin where it all began – with creation. I found some great songs, books, and activities to accompany our Bible lessons. We really had fun learning about the seven days of creation and it was a great way to start our year. I found it easy to tie in science concepts and found many opportunities to teach on the subject when we were outside. Here is what we did:
Preschool Creation Lesson – Day 1
Genesis 1:1-5 New International Version (NIV)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
Before I started reading, I turned off the lights and when I reached “Let there be light…” I flipped on the lights. I was silly and dramatic and enjoyed seeing my kids giggle at me!
- This Little Light of Mine
- Light the Fire in My Heart Again
- Seven Days of Creation Song
- God of Wonders
All songs can be downloaded in a downloadable printable here.
Go Along Books:
- Amy’s Light, by Robert Nutt
- Oscar and the Moth, by Geoff Waring
We grabbed all the flashlights and glow sticks we had in the house. We laid on the floor, played Sugar Plum Fairy on the radio, and looked up at the lights on the ceiling. We talked about how there wouldn’t be any light without God. We also talked about how we feel when it is dark and how turning on the lights makes us feel safe.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1
